Mauro Ribeiro born in the city of Curitiba/PR in Brazil. As a child, already took his first rides through the capital's neighborhoods. Encouraged by Renato Romeu – a great cyclist who motivated an entire generation – in 1980 - at the age of 16, Mauro started professional cycling in the Cicles Clube Romeu Team and, at 17, he was already champion in the Cycling Pan American, in the points and in the individual pursuit modality, in the junior category (1982).
He competed in the World Championship in Firenze, Italy and in 1983 he won the bronze medal in the 400 meters by team at the Pan American Games in Caracas.
In 1985, after participating in the Pan-American Cycling Championship in Venezuela, Mauro moved to Europe, where he won 17 more international titles.
His best career years were at the age of 27, when in 1990 he was among the 60 best cyclists in the world and on July 14, 1991 he won – as a member of the French RMO team – the 9th stage of the Tour de France. He, who was not an expert in team competitions, won the stretch that connects the communes of Alençon and Rennes, making him the first and only Brazilian, so far, to win a stage in this traditional world cycling event.
In 1995, he competed in the Pan American Games in Argentina, where he won the bronze medal, and in 1996, after disputing the endurance race (road) at the Atlanta Olympic Games, Mauro ended his athletic career and became a consultant for one of the biggest Italian cycling clothing brands.
Returning to Brazil in 2001, he assumed the position of coach of the Brazilian Road Team, where he remained until 2008.
Currently, Mauro Ribeiro lives in the capital of Paraná and has his own brand of specialized clothing for cycling: Mauro Ribeiro Sports.
